Meet Karen
Therapy is a space to grow — at your own pace, in your own way.
Hi, I’m Karen. I’m a Registered Psychotherapist and Art Therapist based in North York, Ontario — but those are just the titles. At the heart of my work, I’m someone who’s always been curious about people’s stories: what shaped them, what matters to them, and what might help them feel more grounded, more understood, and more at ease.
Years ago, I worked with children and often found myself drawn to the moments in between — the times they were making art, opening up about something that bothered them, or just chatting with each other about life. I noticed I liked listening — not just to what they said, but to what might be underneath. I liked trying to understand. I liked creating safe, calming spaces. And when I came across art therapy as a career option, it just made sense.
That was the beginning of what’s now been over two decades of work — first with children, and later with adults — combining both art therapy and traditional talk therapy in ways that feel right for the person in front of me.
Why I Do This Work
Because I believe change is possible — even when it doesn’t feel that way yet.
What I love most about this work is being a quiet witness to change. It’s those moments when a client says, “I tried what we talked about — and it helped.” Or when someone who once felt overwhelmed starts to see their own strength and says, “I think I can handle this.”
I believe we all have the capacity to heal, grow, and adapt. Sometimes we just need the right space and support.
How I Show Up in the Room
Real, relaxed, and always on your side.
People often tell me they appreciate that I’m down-to-earth, warm, and easy to talk to. My style is conversational rather than clinical, and I speak in plain language. Therapy with me isn’t rigid or overly formal - it’s relational, responsive, and grounded in real conversation. I pay close attention to pace and what feels most supportive in the moment, adapting my approach based on what will be most helpful for you.
Whether we use talk therapy, art therapy, or a mix of both, I’ll meet you where you are - making space for reflection, creativity, or quiet when words aren’t the right fit.
I believe we all have the capacity to heal, grow, and adapt. Sometimes we just need the right space and support to do it.
A Bit More About Me
I work with high-functioning adults who live with anxiety — something I personally understand, having experienced it myself throughout my life. I know the tools that help, and I also know what it’s like when they’re hard to put into practice. I believe in self-reflection, in taking ownership of our choices, and in offering ourselves grace when we slip up.
I see people as layered and capable — not problems to be fixed, but humans with histories, values, and strengths that sometimes need a bit of uncovering. What matters most to me is showing up with compassion, patience, and respect for your experience.
